Performing Tour to China 2013
Celebrating 20 years of music excellence!

Sacramento Children’s Chorus (SCC) traveled to China as part of a performing tour celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the choir. The tour took place June 18 through June 29, 2013. The choir started off in Beijing, trained to Xi’an, flew to Hangzhou and bused to Shanghai. Throughout the tour the choir performed in some extraordinary concert halls and visited many of the historical sights of the country.

Highlights of the performing tour to China included:

• Imperial Palace in the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square,
• Temple of Heaven
• Pedicab tour through Hutong neighborhood, including a visit to a local family home
• Excursion to the Great Wall
• Excursion to the Terra Cotta Workshop and Terra Cotta Museum
• Visit the water town of Xi Tang and take a gondola ride along the zigzag water alleys

Concert venues included:

• Chinese National Music Hall – Beijing
• Concert Hall of Hangzhou Grand Theater (joint concert with Hangzhou Philharmonic Angel Children’s Choir)
• Heluting Concert Hall of Shanghai Conservatory – Shanghai

SCC choirs have performed throughout the region and the advanced ensembles have performed nationally and abroad giving singers the experience of sharing music with different cultures and audiences. “Over the past 20 seasons we have served as ambassadors of music, traveling to such places as England, France, Hungary, Czech Republic, British Columbia, Hawaii, Norway and Sweden. And we’ve hosted choirs from as far away as Denmark and Korea,” said Lynn Stevens, SCC’s artistic director. “Our mission is to provide music education that creates a lifelong love of music in young singers and to inspire audiences through beautiful music. Learning and sharing diverse music enriches our youth beyond measure.”
