Music Makers is a 8 week workshop designed to provide young children with their “first experience in singing”. Kindergarten through young second grade age children receive an introduction to and possibly their first exposure to music.
Mondays – January 28 – March 25 (February 18 – no class)
4:30pm – 5:20pm
Mosaic Law Congregration 2300 Sierra Blvd.
Class includes activities and games that include singing, rhythm, and movement using a curriculum based on the Kodaly model. This teaching method incorporates singing games, movement, playing instruments, and sharing each student’s unique voice. Also, children are not required to audition and can simply focus on having fun, making friends and learning the wonders of music.
Today’s evidence shows that children who participate in music class at least once a week develop basic reading skills faster and tend to have higher math, science and critical thinking skills. Music classes develop listening skills and symbolic thinking, as well as a means of socialization.
“My five-year-old daughter Michelle has completed four sessions of KinderChorus with Ms. Helen Mendenhall. Ms. Mendenhall is very kind and fun with kids, and has a deep knowledge of music. Michelle has so much fun in her classes, and I see her learning and improving her singing skills through the games, stories and songs used during her lessons. I’ve been encouraging Michelle to sing not only because she loves to sing –singing every where, making up songs, having fun with it all – but also because of the way singing brings light to a person’s life and to all those around!
