Composer Camp – Online

Join us for a week long workshop giving participants the knowledge of how to write their musical ideas into the music software program Sibelius. Since the focus is to replicate and arrange music, no music writing experience is required. Group classes are June 15–19 from 3 – 4:30pm for students entering 7th grade. Class sizes are limited in order to give the best experience for the participants.   • Computer with microphone and video camera
  • Reliable internet connection
  • Ability to log in and use ZOOM
  • Each participant must have access to a computer with Sibelius downloaded.
  • Prior knowledge of letter names
  • Functions of accidentals (sharps, flats, and natural)
  • A basic identify of key signatures and scales

What you will learn:

Upon successfully attending and completing the course work, participants will be able to:

  1. Notate your own melodies and songs into music notation.
  2. Create the layout of a new musical score by choosing from a variety of
  3. instrumentation, key signatures and time signatures.
  4. Demonstrate understanding of musical elements by applying them to a score.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of the software by knowing how it organizes:
  6. Note input
  7. Accidentals, Dynamics, and Phrasing
  8. Text input
  9. Transposition
